In medieval times, an artificer was a master craftsman whose skill, inventiveness
and careful attention to detail combined to make his creations appear magical
in nature. Some believe that the characters from medieval history often called
wizards or magicians were actually people who had mastered and advanced the
high technology of the time in which they lived. Often combining the talents
of several specialized professions, the artificer recognized the underlying
principles that tied all of the expert crafts together - careful study, long
practice, and a belief that quality materials and workmanship have no substitute.
